From Argentina and Costa Rica to the streets of Tribeca, is the story of what happens when pure chance and a single painting triggers the beginning of a long journey between Artist and Patron. Go to Pensofino.com to find out more.
Enio is a Costa Rican artist whose artistic career has been primarily active in Latin America. Trained as a sculptor and scenographer at the National University of La Plata in Argentina, Enio is a self-taught painter who draws inspiration from his personal life and extensive readings of Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, fiction and investigative studies. His journey as a painter started by chance in 2007 during a theatre residency at the University of the Arts Utrecht in the Netherlands. Surrounded by so many creatives, Enio was inspired to participate in a group exhibition organized by the university. The rest as they say, is history. Most notably, in 2016 Enio had a solo exhibition titled BROTES at the National Gallery of Costa Rica. The exhibition consisted of 350 pieces, 15 of which were acquired into the permanent collection of the National Gallery. In February of 2024 Enio was awarded the Martin and Lorraine Kaminsky residency at the Mana contemporary building in Jersey City.
The show will be curated by Enio’s patron/largest collector and will contain works from multiple series from 2016 to 2024, including BROTES. The artwork will be showcased in chronological order walking you through the Patron’s journey with the artist, while at the same time exploring Enio’s creative process and artistic themes. Some of these themes will come from Enio’s GOROFF series which focuses on the social mask and our place in society, while others will come from his MEISTREL series which weaves explorations of the human psyche with extensive studies of color palettes inspired by Mesoamerican ceramics found around Central America and the Caribbeans.
Enio only paints from his imagination creating worlds that are strictly his own. You’ll be transported into whimsical surrealistic dreamlike images which sometimes feel almost naïve and childlike. Enio’s artwork can delve deep into your subconscious in a very subtle way because it comes from a very sincere and personal place. It possesses such authenticity in its essence that it remains unconcerned with whether it elicits joy, sadness, fear, anger, reverie, embarrassment, or a mix of them all.
Perhaps a quote by Amedeo Modigliani, one of Enio’s favorite artists, captures Enio’s creative journey best, “What I am seeking is not the real and not the unreal but rather the unconscious, the mystery of the instinctive in the human race”.
Come discover for yourselves and join us at the early stage of this exciting new chapter.
